Canada has no standalone federal smoke or CO alarm law for private homes, but every province and territory has adopted the National Building Code and/or National Fire Code, which require smoke alarms in all dwellings and CO alarms where fuel-burning appliances or attached garages exist. Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba have additional specific rules.
